Job Description: As a Wrangler at Soda Peak Outfitters, you will play a key role in leading single day horseback trail rides and llama treks for groups of up to six people. Your responsibilities will extend to offering various trip durations, including 1-hour, 2-hour, 3-hour, and all-day excursions. Additionally, you’ll be tasked with preparing trail lunches for guests during the all-day trips. The position also involves assisting with covered wagon rides and chuckwagon cookouts in the evening. Wagon rides will include helping to drive wagons and harness/unharness wagon teams. There is a chance of this position also helping with pack trips if needed.

Responsibilities:

  1. Horseback Trail Rides and Llama Treks:
    • Lead and guide single day horseback trail rides and llama treks for groups of up to six people.
    • Provide safety briefings and instruction to guests, ensuring a positive and enjoyable experience.
    • Tailor trips to the experience level and preferences of the guests.
  2. Trip Duration Options:
    • Offer 1-hour, 2-hour, 3-hour, and all-day trips to cater to diverse guest preferences.
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of both guests and animals throughout each excursion.
  3. All-Day Trips and Trail Lunch Preparation:
    • Conduct all-day trips lasting approximately 6 hours, including preparing trail lunches for guests.
    • Plan and organize the logistics of longer excursions, considering guest comfort and satisfaction.
  4. Covered Wagon Rides and Chuckwagon Cookouts:
    • Assist with covered wagon rides in the evening, providing a unique and immersive experience for guests.
    • Contribute to the preparation and execution of chuckwagon cookouts, showcasing western hospitality.
    • Help drive wagons and harness/unharness wagon teams.
  5. Animal Care:
    • Care for horses and llamas, including feeding, grooming, and monitoring their health.
    • Ensure the proper harnessing and packing of llamas for treks.
  6. Equipment Maintenance:
    • Inspect and maintain riding, packing, and wagon equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
    • Make necessary repairs or replacements as needed.
  7. Customer Service:
    • Interact with guests in a friendly and informative manner, enhancing their overall experience.
    • Address guest questions and concerns promptly and professionally.
  8. Environmental Stewardship:
    • Promote responsible outdoor practices and environmental awareness among guests.
    • Adhere to Leave No Trace principles during all excursions.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience leading horseback trail rides and/or llama treks preferred but not required.
  • Comfortable working with and caring for animals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Hold a valid certification in first aid and CPR or obtain certification before beginning duties.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Seasonal Schedule: The season for these activities runs from June 1 to September 15 each year.

Salary and Compensation: The salary for the position at Soda Peak Outfitters will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience and expertise. The salary structure takes into account factors such as previous work in similar roles, certifications, and demonstrated proficiency.
