Position: Pack Trip Wrangler – Wilderness Adventure Specialist

Location: Teton Wilderness – Based out of Moran, Wyoming

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Pack Trip Wrangler.

Job Description: As a Pack Trip Wrangler at Soda Peak Outfitters, you will play a pivotal role in leading scheduled pack trips with groups of 2 to 10 people, ranging from 3 to 10 days in the wilderness. Your primary responsibilities will include ensuring the safety and enjoyment of guests during extended wilderness excursions. Additionally, you will be involved in setting up and tearing down camps, preparing meals, and creating a memorable experience for our clients. When not engaged in pack trips, you will assist with daily trail rides, llama treks, wagon rides, and other duties.

Responsibilities:

  1. Pack Trips:
    • Lead scheduled pack trips into the wilderness for groups of 2 to 10 people.
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of guests during extended trips, ranging from 3 to 10 days.
    • Provide guidance on wilderness etiquette, outdoor ethics, and responsible camping practices.
  2. Camp Setup and Tear Down:
    • Set up and tear down camp during pack trips, including organizing tents, campfires, and other necessary equipment.
    • Ensure campsites adhere to Leave No Trace principles.
  3. Cooking and Meal Preparation:
    • Prepare and cook meals for clients during pack trips, accommodating dietary preferences and restrictions.
    • Manage food supplies, including planning for the duration of each trip.
  4. Extended Camping:
    • Be prepared for extended periods in the wilderness, participating in camping activities and maintaining a positive atmosphere for guests.
  5. Trail Rides and Other Activities:
    • Assist with daily trail rides, llama treks, wagon rides, and other activities when not on pack trips.
    • Lead shorter duration trips, including 1-hour, 2-hour, 3-hour, and all-day rides, as needed.
  6. Covered Wagon Rides and Chuckwagon Cookouts:
    • Assist with covered wagon rides in the evening, including driving wagons, harnessing/unharnessing teams, and engaging guests in entertainment.
    • Contribute to the preparation and execution of chuckwagon cookouts, providing a memorable western experience.
  7. Certifications:
    • Hold a valid certification in first aid and CPR or obtain certification before beginning duties.

Seasonal Schedule: The pack trip season runs from June 15 to August 31 each year. Employment may commence as early as May 15 and conclude as late as September 20 to assist with preparation and closing activities.

Salary and Compensation: The salary for the Pack Trip Wrangler position at Soda Peak Outfitters will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience and expertise. We recognize and value the unique skills that experienced individuals bring to our team. The salary structure takes into account factors such as previous work in similar roles, certifications, and demonstrated proficiency in wilderness guiding and horsepacking.

Advancement Opportunities: Individuals have the option to continue employment during the hunting season as a wrangler, with the possibility of becoming a guide if desired.
